The Human Rights Clinic at Highland Hospital provides medical evaluation services, psychological services and ongoing primary care to victims of torture and other forms of ill-treatment suffered in their home countries. These services are provided regardless of immigration status. Additionally, the Human Rights Clinic provides forensic evaluations for patients seeking asylum in the U.S. and expert witness testimony in Federal Immigration Court. Since2012, the clinic has performed over 100 forensic evaluations for patients who have undergone various forms of abuse.
Highland Hospital's Human Rights Clinic has been recognized as an “Exemplary Health Partner” by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) for its commitment to the support of refugees in Oakland. The Human Rights Clinic provides care for clients of the IRC who are being re-settled in Alameda County and have significant medical or psychological needs.
