As a consumer of health care, your voice about what you observe as well as your ideas are an important tool to improving the services we provide and will enhance the quality of care at Alameda Health System.
In 2011, AHS formed a Patient & Family Advisory Council at the Highland Hospital campus comprised of patients, family members and hospital staff acting as administrative sponsors. This patient-family driven group meets monthly with an emphasis on providing insight from the patients’ perspective. Council members have participated in several health system process improvement projects as well as Leadership Development Institutes.
Soon council members will sit on operational committees, attend staff meetings and New Employee Orientation. The council also advises the Executive Team and Board of Trustees in methods to ensure optimal patient care. Monthly Resident Council meetings at the Fairmont Skilled Nursing Facility and quarterly Community Partnership Group meetings at John George Psychiatric Hospital ensure the patients' and residents' voices are heard. The insight from these groups has been beneficial in the efforts to improve the patient experience. Future plans are to have the Family Councils at the AHS Wellness Centers in Eastmont, Hayward, and Newark.
As a member of the Patient & Family Advisory Council at AHS, you will assist in bringing the patient’s perspective to designing programs, policies, services and facility enhancements that promote care that is truly centered on patients and families.
